A biennial multi-sport event that originated in 1984.
The first Games were hosted by San Marino in 1985.
The Games include the National Olympic Committees of the small European States, which are also affiliated with the European Olympic Committees (EOC).
The Games are always held at the end of May or beginning of June and feature competitions in summer Olympic sports. From their inception in 1984 until 2009, there were eight members. In 2009, Montenegro became the ninth member of the group.
To be a member and participate in the Games, all states must have a population of fewer than one million people. Cyprus is the only exception, as its population was below one million when the Games began in 1984.
The Games will bring over 1,000 athletes, coaches, officials, heads of delegation and dignitaries to Andorra. Athletes will compete in 19 different sports, including athletics, basketball, judo, rugby 7s, cycling, shooting, karate, swimming, volleyball, table tennis, and tennis.
Andorra has already hosted the Games twice. The first time was in 1991, and again in 2005. This time, Andorra will welcome eight countries: Malta, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Montenegro, and San Marino.
In 2025, Andorra will host the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) from 26 to 31 May.
